Eretria is a municipality in the central Euboea, about 20 km southeast of Chalkida, seat of the municipality is the town of Eretria while the largest city is Amarynthos. Eretria is a small town built on the west coast of Evia. The local beaches constitute a major attraction among many others in Evia which is also quite famous for its big hotels.

In Eretria there are remarkable sights, due to its rich history. During your stay, visit the Ancient Theatre, the Archaeological Museum of Eretria, the Acropolis of Eretria, the Temple of Isis and the Temple of Dafneforos Apollo. Kanaris, the Greek Prime Minister, admiral and politician who in his youth was a freedom fighter in the Greek War of Independence used to have a main residence in Eretria which still remains on display. It is a neoclassic building dating back in 1847.

Amarynthos is perfect for those seeking peaceful holidays, away from the noise of the city. It has a beautiful landscape, with mountain and sea, which provides the perfect setting. There are many interesting places to visit around the area including the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos, which is located in a picturesque forest area, just 6km from Amarynthos.

The monastery was built during the Byzantine period and today operates as a monastery for nuns. Nearby, there is an archaeological site. Not too far away on the mountain of Xirovouni is a charming traditional village, where you will find a wonderful selection of restaurants and tavernas with traditional cuisine.
