Sailing Holidays in Poros Marina

As Poros town is built on a small peninsula surrounded by quays, along the south and northwest sides, the harbour provides excellent shelter all year round. The closest airport to Poros island is the International Airport of Athens (IATA: ATH) and from the airport or the city centre, visitors can go to the port of Piraeus and take the ferry to Poros.

There are several ferries to Poros every day from the port of Piraeus and the trip by hydrofoil is approximately 1 hour. There is also the mainland port of Galatas, just opposite Poros town, that also serves ferries to the island. When south winds blow, there can be gusts, however, many yachts winter here in perfect safety.

On the more popular and quieter northwest side, visiting yachts can berth using their anchors stern/bows-to either at the quay or the long pontoon that extends out at right angles from the north end of the quay. Depths along the quay range from 2.5 – 3.5 metres and on the pontoon from 3.5 metres at the inshore end to over 10.0 metres at the outer end. Water and electricity can be obtained on the quay. Good fendering and a good clearance off the quay are essential in view of the heavy wash from ferries.
